Shri Sidheswar Mahadev TempleActivity Report of Shri Sidheswar Mahadev, Bije Sidheswar Sahi, Cuttack, 753008, Odisha for the year 2024-25
1. Shri Sidheswar Mahadev, a public trust, was managed by a hereditary trust board, as per provisions of the Odisha Hindu Religious Endowment (OHRE) Act (Index no 1564- C-CM).
2. The main temple is located at Sidheswar Sahi, {on southern side of the Kanika Chak (Square) to Shelter Chak (square) Income Tax office road}, Police Station: Lalbagh, Post office : Tulsipur (Cuttack-8), Ward no 10 of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, Cuttack District, Odisha, PIN 753008.
3. The daily seba puja (neiti) of the deity, covering bathing the deity before sunrise, morning puja, cooking and serving Anna Prasad, and Sandhya arti in the evening was done by the Sebayats as per the traditional customs. This was performed by individual member of the trust board on rotational basis for the number of days assigned to each in a month namely (i) Shri Sanjay Kumar panda for eight days in a month (1/4th share), (ii) Shri Pravat Panda and Shri Sarat Kumar Panda for eight days in a month (1/4th share), (iii) Shri Prafulla Kumar Panda and Shri Brajedra Kumar Panda for six days in a month (3/16th share), (iv) Shri Govinda Panda son of late Surendra Kumar Panda for two days in a month (1/16th share), and Smt Nirupama Mahapatra for eight days in a month (1/4th share).
4. Special puja and Yagnya (sacred fire) on the Sankranti and Bhedha parikrama on the Shiba Chaturdashi were performed as per the Hindu calendar every month.
5. Shib Bibaha, marriage of Lord Shiba and Goddess Parbti was observed on the Sital Shashti on the 10th June 2024, as per traditional rites with active participation of the sevayats. The deities were taken out in procession by the devotees with lots of enthusiasm,
6. Special puja of mother goddess Maa Sidheswari were performed along with Chandipath during Navaratri in the month of Ashwin. Ornamental decorations of Maa Sidheswari as Maha Laxmi, Maha Saraswati, Maa Durga, and Maa Viswaroopi along with religious discourse were performed seeking the divine blessings of Mother Goddess for all the devotees.
7. Month long Special puja covering Mangal Aarati before sunrise, offering Aakash Deep (earthen lamp on a high mast) in the evening and decoration with Diyas (lights) during Dewali were observed in the sacred month of Kartik.
8. Special bhedha prakrama and offering in the samadhi of Naga baba were done on the Makar Sankranti day (14th January 2025).
9. Maha Sivaratri (Jagar Yatra) was observed on the 26th February 2025 (Wednesday) as per the traditional rites and customs. Puja Archana started before sunrise, and continued with special puja in the morning, putting on new flags (Dhwaja dharan), Hari Hara bhet, Sandhya puja (in the evening), Maha puja and offering the Maha Deep in the night, performed by the sevayats with active support of the devotees. Bhajan Samaroha was arranged in the temple premises by artists, which added to the festivities and devotional atmosphere.
10. The water body (pond), located on the southern side of the temple, was given for pisciculture on lease to the highest bidder, determined open by public auction, for the water year (July 2024 – June 2025).
11. The electric wring of the main temple, office and guest room was last done in 2000. It needed urgent repair and there were short circuits. To avoid any accident, the wiring was done afresh. The new cooking hall (on the southwestern corner) was electrified and developed, which was highly appreciated by the devotees. Besides other half (top Portion) of the mukhshala was painted, which added beauty to the premisses. The wooden door frame (chaukat) was damaged and was repaired along with annual repair, maintenance, painting, whitewashing of the temple and premises.
12. On festive occasions, Prasad (both cooked and dry) was distributed among the children, poor and needy persons free of cost.
13. Shri Prakash Kar, Hon’ble Additional Assistant Commissioner of Endowment (AACE) Cuttack along with Shri Pradipta Sahu, Inspector of Endowments visited the temple on 03.02.2025 and had discussion with members of the hereditary trust board namely Shri Sanjay Kumar Panda (HMT), Shri Prafulla Kumar Panda, Shri Pravat Panda and Shri Sarat Kumar Panda. Renovation of the pond on the southern side of the temple and early disposal of the cases relating to the land of the deity institution came up for discussion among other things.
14. Kind attention of the Hon’ble Commissioner was drawn to the limitation of resources of the institution with request for sanctioning grant for Sital Shashti and nieti and for construction by Shri Sanjay Kumar Panda, HMT. On the recommendations of Hon’ble Commissioner of Endowments, Rs40,000/- (forty thousand only) was sanctioned for Sital Shasthi 2024-25 vide Government of Odisha, Law dept. order no 9934 dated 03.07.2024 (at page 6 sl no 19). Later another Rs40,000/- (forty thousand only) was sanctioned for Niti Kanti 2024-25 vide Government of Odisha, Law dept. order no 4446 dt12.03.25 (at page 8, sl no 41). These amounts were used judiciously for the purposes specified and the utilisation certificates have been submitted.
15. Amount collected from annual lease of the pond, paddy and donation for holding prayer meetings, supplemented the interest accrued on the Fixed Deposit (which was the main source of revenue) were used for management of the institution. During the year, one term deposit matured, which was reinvested along with other fixed deposits in the Union Bank of India as per the order of the Hon’ble Commissioner of Endowments. Donation by family members of the hereditary managing trustee augmented this revenue.
16. Various issues relating to the management of the institution were discussed in the meetings of the Trust board held on 30.06.2024, 25.09.2024, 31.12.2024 and 02.03.2025. Active cooperation of members of the trust board and local devotees was sought for running the institution smoothly.
17. Notwithstanding limitation of financial resources, traditional rites and seva puja of the deity were performed as per the customs; along with repair/maintenance, legal and charitable activities. Special attention was given to cleanliness as a part of the Swach Bharat drive and managing the institution in a smooth and orderly manner.
